About Lane
Born in Carmel, Lane first began learning the Great Highland Bagpipe at the young age of 7. Growing up Lane was immersed in the world of bagpiping and pipe bands as her mother, Missy Jenkins Olson, also plays. Missy was one of the original pipers at the Inn at Spanish Bay when it opened in 1987. Missy's interest in the pipes was originally sparked by her grandfather, who fought in WWI with the Royal 42nd Highlanders of the Black Watch. Lane's older sister, Audrie Jenkins, became a snare drummer who competed with the Prince Charles Pipe Band in the world championships in Glasgow several times. In fact, one of Lane's earliest memories was when she was 3 years old touring Scotland with her family in 1997 when Audrie's band competed in and won the world championships
Lane was originally taught to play by her mother Missy and later got instruction from teachers including Robert Boyd, Bill Merriman, and Ken Sutherland. Lane also studied in workshops under world-renowned bagpipers including Roddy MacLeod and Willie McCallum. For many years Lane played and competed with the world champion Prince Charles Pipe Band of San Francisco. Lane has also competed successfully as a soloist, winning top prizes at Highland Games around the state.
Lane has been performing for the past 14 years as one of the "Sunset Bagpipers" at the Inn at Spanish Bay in Pebble Beach, California, and since then has performed for hundreds of other private events.
